Happy Saturday!
It is Collin and mine's Anniversary weekend. I absolutely cannot believe that it has already been a year. After sitting and thinking about mine and Collin's story and how we got to here, it is nuts to see how every small detail of our lives has lead us to where we are now. God is such an artist and novelist. He writes the best love stories.
Collin and I have known each other almost all our lives. We grew up in the same small home town in east Texas where everyone knows about everyone. We may not have ever really hung out or been friends but we knew of each other and had the same friends.
I moved to Denton when I was 15 and Collin stayed in Sulphur Springs. We both ended up in Abilene for college, Collin was at Abilene Christian University and I was at Hardin-Simmons University. We, like most freshman in college, were looking for friends and so I got a message from him one night on Facebook asking if I wanted to meet and catch up. I said "sure sounds fun". We saw each other everyday after that for about 40 straight days. We bonded very quickly. We spent our nights walking around our campuses and talking about everything. We connected through the tragedy of us both losing a parent. It was unbelievable how at peace I felt with him.
We dated for about 4 months. I started to freak at how serious it was becoming so I bolted in December of 2006. We cautiously talked ever so often seeing how the other was doing, but we both were hurt and scarred from the break up.
I tried to date but I kept going back to thoughts of when Collin and I dated. Collin had dated off and on a little since we had broken up. Apparently I was talking about it a lot to because Anna Lynne, my best friend, finally said, "Would you just talk to him already and tell him how you feel?" So the summer before my sophomore year I was in Sulphur Springs and I called him and told him I was in town and asked if he wanted to meet up and see how each other were.
Collin and I met at his house and then went for a drive and ended up at the Sulphur Springs football field. We climbed the fence and just sat in the bleachers and talked. Well, I poured my heart out to him and he listened. If you know me, you know that for me to make myself that vulnerable is highly uncharacteristic of me. After a long silence (and the cops showing up and us almost getting caught for trespassing), I jokingly asked him, "So when did you get over me?" and Collin, being the smooth guy he is, responded with, "Who says I have?" We have been together ever since.
He proposed to me on that football field almost two years later. We also now live in Sulphur Springs, where we go to football games at that stadium and sit about in the same spot we did that night.
Tomorrow, marks our one year anniversary and I can't wait for 50 more.
Through tragedy, such as losing a parent, comes perseverance, and through perseverance comes a beautiful story. One that I am so proud is ours.
Blessings,
Jessica
